Day trip to Fussen: alpine activities

We will be driving to Fussen from Munich for a day to visit Neuschwanstein in early June. After doing the castle tour at 12:30, we'd like to soak up the alpine scenery by going for a short hike, and/or doing some biking (ideally lakeside), taking a cable car ride ( thinking maybe the Tegelberg), and maybe doing the luge there too. We will be driving back to Munich that evening.

Should we head to the Forgensee area? Alpsee? Garmich-Partenkirchen?

Thanks for your input

The Tegelberg car is not worth the effort. Have a leisurely lunch followed by a walk around the Alpsee. Stop off in Fussen itself if you have not visited before.

As an alternative to your plan of renting a car for a day - and seeing that you think a bike tour might be fun: Contact Mike's Bike Tours and look into the tour that takes you via bus from Munich to Schwangau, gives you a guided bike tour around the area and the deposits you at the castle for your tour. You'll be delivered back to Munich on your bus.
