Can anybody recommend a tour company that would have a day trip tour to Berchtesgaden/Eagles Nest from Munich? It didn't look like it would be very fast to take the train from Munich toBerchtesgaden.
I will be there with my 18 year son & his friend at the end of May. My son is a huge history buff and wants to see Eagles Nest.
Krista;
Here is a link to a tour I found through the company Get Your Guide.

If this tour doesn't meet your needs, scroll down to the bottom of the page for other options.
I've used this company in Ljubljana and Dubrovnik and had a good experience.
Have a great trip.

Krista,
The quickest trip from Munich to Berchtesgaden is probably by train. The trip will be a minimum of 2H:32M, with one change in Freilassing. Once you arrive in Berchtesgaden, I would recommend taking a tour with Eagle's Nest Tours. If you get an early start, that should provide enough time to see the Eagle's Nest.
While in Berchtesgaden, you could also tour the Dokumentation Centre and Bunkers. A lot of the displays in the Dokumentation Centre are in German, but English audioguides are available. Not all of the Bunkers have been restored, but those that are available for touring are very interesting. There's also a Salt Mine there that can be toured.
For planning rail trips, the Bahn.de website is the best resource.
I would recommend spending a night or two in Berchtesgaden. Some years ago we started the day in Berchtesgaden after spending the night there. We went to the Hbf first thing and took the buses to the Eagles Nest, where we had lunch, then went down to Obersalzberg and toured the Dok Zentrum and the bunkers. By the time we finished that it was late in the day and we were tired. We went back to our hotel to prepare for dinner. It will be an awful long, tiring day if you try to do this from Munich.
