We are planning on staying in Munich and taking the train one day to Fussen. Is it realistic to think that we can do Hohenschwangau castle, Neuschwanstein Castle and do some hiking above the castle to Mary's bridge all in one day? Thank you.
yes - but a long day
Just do one castle tour either Neuschwanstein or Hohenschwangau , Fussen, and hiking above castle. It maybe tiring to do both castles.
We easily did that in one day from Munich. We did tour both castles, though the real beauty of Neuschwanstein is the outside. If you do both, I would do Hohenschwangau first where you get some background and context for the family and King Ludwig. Hohenschwangau is furnished and was actually lived in.
I believe we left at about 9am and got back to Munich at about 6 or 7 pm, but we lingered a bit longer than we would have needed to.
Thanks for all your replies. Safe travels
It's definitely doable, but it's going to be a long day. I'd definitely recommend Hohenschwangau over Neuschwanstein for the reasons listed above, but I still think you'd have time for both as long as you're on the train by 9am.
Thanks so much for your input. It's been very helpful. Safe travels
