Day Hiking in Franconian Switzerland

My husband and I am staying in Nuremberg for 3 nights in late June, and we'd love to rent a car and see the Franconian Switzerland area. Does anyone have recommendations for short day hikes or places where we can walk around and drink good beer? (We are big beer fans, and I have seen that Upper Franconia boasts the highest concentration of breweries in the world!)
Thank you!

Thank you! To clarify, though, I actually want to hike in the hilly and rocky areas, not just walk between breweries!

Just remember that beer and driving don’t go together in Germany. The limits are very much lower than you may be used to.

Great area in June. There are many trails along the Wiesent river valley. It is pretty easy to go from one Gathaus/Old Mill to another and the towns are not too far apart. There is bus service too. An old steam train also runs through the Wiesent river valley and there is Canoe and Kayak service, but reserve ahead as June is high season. You might want to visit Pottenstein as there are several small Brauerei in the town. Try a fresh trout. It is hard to go wrong in this region.

This one is my favorite: http://www.lindenbraeu.de/

Mine too! Irene Bremer-Stockum is a very capable and enterprising woman without whom the Lindenbräu would have perished years ago. However, the other brewery in Gräfenberg, also run by a women, has a much nicer beer garden: http://brauerei-friedmann.de/
Btw, don't hike the Fünf-Seidla-Steig on weekends.

sla019, do you say this just because of crowds on weekends? I was planning on doing this hike during my trip in May, but I hadn't decided on a specific day yet.

Yes - that way you can avoid meet ups with unpleasant groups of drunkards (they will be rejected by the breweries, but they will be around nontheless). On workdays it's rather quiet on the Steig (and, btw, it is somewhat hilly).
