My husband and I are trying to decide between doing a bike/boat tour on the Danube from Passau , Germany to Vienna, Austria or cycling around Lake Constance. If we did the Lake Constance ride we would do it through a company that would move our luggage to each night's destination. I would love to hear from someone who might be able to recommend one over the other. They both sound pretty fantastic. I am also interested in recommendations for tour companies for either of these rides that readers might have experience with. I am currently inclined toward the Lake Constance ride. We hope to do this trip late May/early June. Thank you.
Bumping this topic up.
If you have a choice of a company that will arrange accommodation for each night and move your luggage each day vs not, I would take that choice, whether it's the Danube or Lake Constance, but I think there are also companies that provide these services on the Danube.
In my case, I used to be a very dedicated cyclist (did Ride the Rockies twice), but I never would have done a bike ride in Europe. I like having my own bike, but I'm not willing to ship it to Europe. In 2007, I showed up at a small pension in Vilshofen, and they were amazed that I didn't have a bicycle. Seems most of their business is people doing the Danube from Nürnberg (or Donauwörth) down to Passau or beyond.
I've also spent time on Lake Constance, and I think the ride around that lake would be fun.
I know Frank has done some bicycle tours in Europe, maybe he will have some sources.
