dachou - site tour at 11:00 question...

Hi everyone - I can see that dachou offers english tours at 11:00. Have any of you been on that? Do you know how long it takes? I am just trying to gauge our day that day to get a train back. We have on the list to visit a museum in Munich in the afternoon and want to make sure we allow enough time to go through dachou and make it back to munich. Thanks so much for your help!

I don't know the tour length, but I would suggest doing a self-guided tour. The museum displays have English explanations, and there's also an audio guide. I think you'd find you had enough information. That way you could arrive earlier and have plenty of time for your afternoon museum visit. Dachau is an emotionally wrenching place, and I was glad to be able to experience it at my own pace, quietly. Being part of a group with a tour guide talking away would have diminished the power of the place for me.

The guided tour takes about 2½ hours, then there is a half hour movie in English at 2:00. You'll have a half hour to grab a sandwich at the snack bar.

If you forego the movie, you could leave at 13:33 and be back at the Hauptbahnhof at 14:11.

As Melissa said, Dachau can be emotionally draining -- I just wanted to go back to the hotel and sit quietly. But it may strike you differently. Just see how you feel, and decide then whether the museum is a good choice.

Not sure how long a tour of Dachau camp takes through the site as we did a very good private guided tour.
But Melissa & Laura are very honest and true in what they said - Dachau is extremely emotional. My fiancee and I broke down a couple times during our visit, and it took me two days to get over it...
