Dachau visit

Does anyone know of a reputable company that does small guided tours of Dachau leaving from Munich?

I had considered taking a tour from this company which comes highly regarded by many forum members.

In the end, we opted for visiting on our own. This was primarily because I was unsure how long I could sustain being there without it becoming too much for me emotionally.

My plan worked well for me. I would take "breaks" and sit and rest while my son went through the exhibits in more detail. You could easily spend hours there simply reading the information that is provided on the placards at the various exhibits. I certainly don't downplay the value of a guide to really give the big picture.

I am not aware of a guide company but I have been to Dachau twice on my own using the RS guidebook. I found that the information in the RS book combined with the English plaques all around were plenty for me to get a good understanding of what I was looking at. It's a great site and I am sure you will not regret going.

We did a tour with Dark History tours.
Even though we are very familiar with the subject and having been to Ravensbrück, Sachsenhausen and Bergen-Belsen, having a guide that could tell us of personal interviews with survivors and with liberators, and what were the differences here, compared to the other KZ was important to us. It was very meaningful and well worth the money.
Yes, you can simply walk around and read the plaques, or even go on a tour with guides at Dachau, but if you really want a deeper insight into what happened here and the why of it all, and the chance to ask as many questions as you like, a private tour is going to be worth it.

I considered doing a Big Hat Tour of Dachau last year. But decided to tour on my own. I’m glad I did because I could spend as long as I wanted at the exhibits. I’m sure I missed the information as good guide can provide. But by the time I went to Dachau, I had been in Germany, Austria and Czech Rrpublic for over three weeks and was overwhelmed by the brutal Nazi and Iron Curtain history.
