Dachau - need reservations?

We will be on the RS My Way tour of GAS in Sept. The planning sheet says reservations needed to Dachau but the book says we can do this on our own. I am confused.

I do see that brief notation on the tour materials and talked to that department about changing it. You can easily visit Dachau on your own, without reservations, by taking local S-Bahn transportation and picking up an audio guide upon arrival. You would only reserve (a day or two ahead) if you wanted a guided tour operated by Radius or Munich Walk (p. 58).

No, we can't get tickets the day of for the train and Dachau? We have to reserve both ahead of time?

I think he means "No, you don't need reservations".

It's not possible to reserve the S-Bahn. The Dachau Memorial's site says, "No prior appointment is necessary". Groups can and should get reservations.

A Muenchen XXL Partner Tageskarte (for 14,20 €) will cover all (S-Bahn and Bus) of your (up to five people) travel to and from the Memorial plus any other travel in Munich that day. Admission to the Memorial is free; a tour by Memorial-trained guides cost 3€ per person. So it costs about 16 € for two people if you do it yourself. Radius, for example, charges 44€ for two.

Some people who spent the money for a commercial tour will claim the guide was so much "more knowledgeable", but commercial guides only have to take a "short" training course, whereas the Memorials own guides take a one year training course. I suspect, actually, that commercial guides are former Memorial guides.

Note changes to the bus route.

Might be helpful to know when they're showing the English version of the documentary film if you're going it alone and want an introduction. 10AM, 11:30AM, 12:30PM, 2PM, and 3PM
