Cycling the Mosel, Traben-Trarbach to Bernkastel-Kues

We plan (hope?) to be in Germany in early September. We would like to spend a day on a bike along the Mosel from Traben-Trarbach to Bernkastel-Kues. I'm hoping someone out there in RS Land has done this and can answer a couple of questions.
(Years ago we did this between Melk and Krems and would like to have a similar experience in a different location.)

Is there a bike path along the river or do you have to go overland?

Are bike rentals available in either town or should we bring bikes from a larger city ( Cochem, Koblenz)?
Are there small wineries/ home wineries between the two towns to stop and sample the local wines or are there just opportunities in the two communities?

We're hoping to take our time, sample the local wines, end up at the wine museum in BK, and then, depending upon our legs (and BAC) either bike back or possibly take a boat back to BK.

Thanks to any and all for any help or suggestions.

Yes, there is a trail along the river in a disused railroad bed.
There is a bus with a bike trailer that serves the region including along the Mosel. You could start further down the river at Bullay, which is the junction for the Traben-Trarbach spur. The No 5 bus goes along the river from Bullay to Trier. You'll pass through Zell, home of Zellerschwartzekatz. Each town will have its own "brand" with lots of spots that make and sell it. Do a bit of research at http://www.mosellandtouristik.de/en/
Check out wine tastings and festivals for the towns along your route for your time there. Most of the festival action is during the weekends.
About wineries, most are mom-and-pop operations that have a small plot on the hillsides. Its not like France, Italy or Napa. Check out anything that says "Weinprobieren", German for wine tasting.
Edit, September will be prime time for "Strassenweinfesten". They are on the weekends and are a blast.

Sam - thanks for the info.
We're checking out those websites, along with others, and think this is what we're looking for - especially the wine fests.
Appreciate the reply.
