I will be in Germany for the month of May, based out of Berlin. I am interested in doing a bike tour along the Rhine, using an electric bike that would allow me to have my luggage transported between accommodations. I am primarily interested in doing this for a few days and so the tour companies would not be an option. Has anyone done this on their own and how did they arrange it? Thanks!!
The Middle Rhine Valley has ferry (Fähren} crossings which encourage riding in loops that use both riverbanks. From a St Goar base, one could do a) an upstream loop on one day and b) a downstream loop on another, for example.
a) St Goar > Bingen (ferry) Ruedesheim > St Goarshausen (ferry) St Goar
b) St Goar > Koblenz (bridge) > St Goarshausen (ferry) St Goar
Other ferry crossings south of Koblenz include those in Kaub and Boppard.
Ferry crossings at Andernach, Bad Breisig, and Remagen serve the area north of Koblenz.

When you change base towns, the regional trains typically provide space for transporting your bike, and of course your travel bag is welcome as well. Train cars with bike spaces typically have a bike icon on the side with the number of available spaces. Rules about bike ticketing vary a bit depending on the area. Bike car example:
