Cruise port to Berlin by Train

I am trying to plan cruise 2017, NCL makes port in Warnemunde. I have read previous posts where a web site is mentioned but I cannot get the link to work for www.interconnex.info (or the other .com&#41) Is that site still giving info and could someone help me with a better address? Thanks George

Interconnex closed down years ago. All the trains on that route are now Deutsche Bahn at www.bahn.com. It takes about four or five hours, and you can get cheaper tickets if you book about three months in advance. You probably need someone on the board with more local knowledge to know if it's easy to get from the cruise port to a railway station. Was this for a day trip, or are you ending your cruise and staying in Berlin?

Interconnex (a subsidiary of Veolia aka Transdev) left the market in Dec. 2014. For actual trains to Berlin, look up www.bahn.com. BTW, the trip takes three hours at a minimum. There is no noticeable difference in travel time between regional and long distance trains on that route, so no need for prebooking.

That internet address ( www.interconnex.info ) is currentyly "suspended". Looks like somebody forgot to pay the subscription.
If you look it up, it is registered to the following:

Registrant Contact
Name: Transdev GmbH
Organization: Transdev GmbH
Mailing Address: Georgenstrasse 22, Berlin 10117 DE
Phone: +49.3020073325
Fax: +49.3020073340
Email:[email protected]

This is public information. You can look up the owner of any internet address on line.

What do you actually want to know from this site?
If you want to know how to get from Warnemünde to Berlin, go to the DB (German Railways) site: https://www.bahn.de/p_en/view/index.shtml
and do a search from Warnemünde to Berlin, with a time and date. I juts did so, and it told me it takes just over 3 hours. There are two stations in Warnemünde, "Warnemünde " and "Warnemünde Werft", the other entries shown are bus stops. You will need to find which is closest to your boat.

If you're looking for a place to spend your one day in port, there are a number of very nice, historic cities much closer than Berlin. Berlin is wonderful, but to my mind its sights are time-consuming ones--museums and historical monuments that require more than an hour to see properly. You wouldn't really have time to get much out of Berlin in the time available, given its distance from port.

Rick's Northern Cruise Ports guidebook introduces the topic like this:

Make no mistake: By train, by tour bus, or by Porsche on the Autobahn, plan on at least three hours of travel time each way between your cruise ship at Warnemünde and Berlin--plus time spent sightseeing in Berlin and waiting for train connections.

Forget Berlin. It takes at least 3 hours to get there, and Berlin is huge without a real center. Even a organized tour usually only covers Unter den Linden, Brandenburg Gate, Checkpoint Charlie (tourist trap) and sells a drive to the western part of the city as a sightseeing tour. It's a waste of money.

My recommendation: stay on the coast. The area offers four historic towns which are World Heritage Sites, a real fairytale castle, one of the most beautiful churches of the Brick Gothic and several nice, relaxed seaside resorts. There is a tour company, Friends of Dave (read the reviews at Tripadvisor), who offers a great tour called "Mega Mecklenburg Tour", which gives you a bit of everything: a typical seaside resort with old fishermens and captains houses, the fairytale castle of a duke, a medieval city full of historic houses, and a typical German meal. Or you could do a tour on your own, which would cost just 30€.

We did a cruise of the Baltic last year and did not go to Berlin for the day, as others have mentioned, transportation time and actual time in Berlin. We chose to stay on the coast cities and took 2 tours with the cruise. Both were very good and we did get the Eastern Germany experience.

Hi,

If you're docking at Warnemünde, I would not advise going to Berlin. Go to Schwerin instead., much more doable logistically. Still, you need to get out Warnemünde by S-Bahn to Rostock, then take the train to Schwerin.
