Covering Berlin and Munich over a single weekend from Frankfurt

I am planning to visit Berlin and Munich from Frankfurt from 23rd sept to 25 sept. I know this is really tight trip, but i have only one weekend and i am ok with covering only the main attractions. I will be using flixbus in all 3 nights and will not be staying in the city (Berlin or Munich) on saturday night so as to utilize the time. I would like to spend as little as possible. For places to visit, i like to experience things like grand architectures, nice landscapes or something unique. I do not like most of the museums and ok to skip smaller attractions like fountains, churches etc. Here are a few suggestions i would like to have on this plan.

1) Is this a dumb idea to try and cover both cities in one weekend ? The days cannot be extended, but if suggested, i will spend the 2 days in a single city.

2) Which sequence should i do ? FRA-BERLIN-MUNICH-FRA or FRA-MUNICH-BERLIN-FRA ? Flixbus time seems to be the same but the prices for this week are confusing me. Please consider the fact that i must reach back to FRA Monday early morning.

3) Any Deutsche bahn pass for the weekend that can allow me to travel all over Germany ? The cost is the factor i chose flixbus. Seems like the total transportation (flixbus + local single day pass) will cost me something around 90-100 EUR.

Figure in your time too. A train takes 4 hours each way. A bus is going to take much longer.

If it was me, I would spend the whole time in Berlin. Munich is nice, but I wouldn't go out of my way to see it if I could spend more time in Berlin. Berlin is also a lot cheaper.

I would also skip Munich and concentrate on Berlin, unless of course you want to go to Oktoberfest in Munich. I loved my 5 days in Berlin and could definitely have used even more. There is so much to see there. Spending that much time in travel when you only have a weekend (even a 3-day weekend) is wasteful in my opinion.

I definitely think it is better to spend all the time in one of those cities. Berlin would also be my preference (based on my interests), but I'd even vote for all the time in Munich ahead of splitting the time.

I agree with others; hardly enough time for one city. Don't further cut your time with a trip between Berlin and Munich. Concentrate on one city. I would normally say Munich (my favorite), but you'd be there during Oktoberfest. Rooms would be hard to get now, and expensive. Go to Berlin.

Why are you not considering the weekend train pass? If I understand it correctly, it costs 40 Euros per weekend day. But yes, it won't give you overnight travel past, I believe, 3 am or so.

Am I missing something here?

Porcupyn, I think you are talking about a Schönes-Wochenende-Ticket, which is an all-day pass for a weekend day. It's 40€ for one person for one weekend day. Ergo 80€ for Sat & Sun (2 passes), wouldn't be valid on Fr (although there is a similar Quer-durchs-Land-Ticket for 44€ on weekdays)..

The Schönes-Wochenende-Ticket (or QdLT) is only valid for regional trains, which usually only run through one Land (German state). They're slower because they make lot of stops and you'll have to change trains often. Not very practical for a long distance trip such as Frankfurt to Berlin. The best you can do is probably 3 changes and over eight hours vs a direct, 4 hour ICE.

Definitely skip Munich - Oktoberfest will be going on in Munich and it will be crazy. Spend the time in Berlin - great city!
