US citizens flying with Lufthansa from Copenhagen to Madrid, with a connection in Frankfurt. Currently both flights are scheduled to arrive and depart from Terminal 1 in Frankfurt. I'm assuming our baggage will be checked through to Madrid since both flights are Lufthansa. Our connection window is 2 hours and 10 minutes. We will have 2 small carry-ons and hand held luggage for under the seats, and on larger back which is checked.
Will we have to go through immigration control since we will be arriving from Copenhagen, where we will have already gone through immigration control into the EU? We will have 2 small carry-ons and hand held luggage for under the seats. I've read there's also the chance for additional security checks, as well.
We have Pre-Check from TSA but I'm aware that only works in the US. How can we go about getting Germany's EasyPass? Can we do it online? Or do we have to be physically in Germany to get it?
Any other advice for Frankfurt?
It is a virtual domestic flight. You get off the plane and proceed to your departure gate. Just like if you were going from Boston to Columbus with a plane change at Dulles.
It is just like what Sam said. Walk off, go to your departure gate, get on the next plane.
All Lufthansa flights are in Terminal 1. You might want to search on Flight Aware which gates both flights usually use, though this may be different the day you fly.
You can only get Easypass in person. And there is no need because you are flying within Schengen so there is no passport contol for either of those flights. (Schengen is different than the EU.)
You will have plenty of time for your connection. Just make sure your carry on bags meet Lufthansa's size and weight rules. .
BTW, I got my Easypass at Frankfurt last month. It didn't take long but there was no-one ahead of me on line.
How can we go about getting Germany's EasyPass?
I am planning to get EasyPass later this year on my first of two trips to Germany. You have to go in person to an EasyPass office. There is one in the Frankfurt airport and 7 other locations as well.
OP, since you don't need EasyPass for this trip, I think Frank II is saying your connection
time of 2:10 is fine.
This is definitely true, but Frankfurt is a large airport, kind of confusing, and there is a
non-trivial chance that you will either park at or connect to a remote gate (aka piece
of tarmac), and bus to/from the main terminal, which will increase your overall
connect time. All to say that you shouldn't dilly-dally too much.
If, however, you wanted to get EasyPass (for another trip) then you have to clear
immigration and go into the main terminal to the police station. You probably don't
have time for that.
Thanks, shoeflyer, I edited my comment to make it clearer.
Thank you all for your advice for Frankfurt. Feeling so much better about our connection.
