Confused about Prague Speziel ticket , Munich to Prague

Hi,
I understand that I can buy a Prague speziel ticket which allows me to travel from Munich to Prague on any of the Alex trains that day.

Our flight arrives in Munich at 9:15, if we’re lucky. There is a non stop train to Prague at 12:44 and another at 14:44. I would think that we should be able to get on one of those trains unless our flight is really a mess.

My question is about reserving a seat. We are older and will have luggage so would like to have a guaranteed seat. Can this be done with the Prague Speziel ticket? As this ticket is flexible how do get seat reservations when we don’t know for certain which train we will be taking.

Thanks for your help

Hi,
The option to reserve seats was not provided when I purchased the tickets on the direct train from Munich to Prague on Alex. I tried to then reserve the seats separately but the direct trains were not listed on the DB site. Are there reserved seats on this train?

What is your travel date?

Note that from the airport you would travel Airport - Regensburg - Praha. No need to go in to Munich...

That train is not operated by DB, but jointly by Czech Railways and the Bavarian Länderbahn. Seat tickets are only available on the Czech railroad website (www.cd.cz, approx. 4 weeks in advance). I would also compare the prices there with the “Prague Special”, they are often cheaper.

I would rather take the bus to Freising and get on the Alex there.

Alex is the brand name for the open-access commercial rail service (formerly operated by Arriva) on the Munich - Regensburg - Hof - Prague route.

Mr E, ALEX is an acronym for Arriva Landerbahn Express, as Arriva (who run trains and buses in many countries across and beyond Europe) were the former operators.

The name dates even back to the time before the Regentalbahn was taken over by Arriva. ALEX ws originally an acronym for Allgäu Express, the brand under which the Regentalbahn operated its (Hof)-Munich-Lindau train since 2003. After losing this line, the new owner of the Regentalbahn, Arrriva, and its successor Netinera (a subsidiary of Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane) have used it for the newly acquired Munich Hof / Prague line. Only the Munich-Prague branch of this line still exists.
