Compulsatory reservation on train from Lindau-Reutin to Lucerne

Unfortunately, after much research and finally feeling comfortable with my train transfers from Fussen to Lucerne, our timetable was changed due to flooding. We purchased a super saver ticket. Instead of stopping at Buchloe, we now have a transfer in Kaufbeuren and Lindau-Reutin. I found the schedule we want to use; however, on the timetable for the train transfer from Lindau-Reutin to Lucerne, it says "compulsory reservation. How do I make a reservation on the train from Lindau-Reutin to Lucerne? Also, if by chance I miss the train I'm hoping to catch, do I then have to make a reservation on the next train? Thanks in advance.

Don't bother with the reservation. This is the train planner having a case of OCD. Just hop on whatever train you manage to catch.

Since your ticket is now a fully flexible one you are free to leave at a time of your convenience, you are not bound to any schedule. Note that the train goes from Lindau to Zurich. There is no train from Lindau to Luzern.

Note that you should have received a reservation for the train to Zurich when you did your original booking. That reservation still exists, but you now board at Lindau. You may have to leave earlier in Fussen to catch your originally booked train though.
Alternatively there are also local trains running across the border. Given the chaos on the network you may well end up on different trains than you planned anyway. But you will make it to Luzern. Don't be afraid to ask staff for help.

So basically this is what you should do: Take a train from Füssen to Kaufbeuren. Then in Kaufbeuren take the first one you can get to Lindau. Then in Lindau the first one you can catch to st. Margrethen. And so one. The motto in case of disruptions should be: keep moving, and don't care to much about the particulars of individual trains.
