Has anyone been to the Cologne Chocolate Museum? Is it worth 1/2 a day? We understand it is Lindt . . . people tell us the Lindt in Germany taste better than the Lindt here in the USA (they say the same about Nutella). Any info or recommendations would be appreciated.
You don't need half a day for this. 1 or maybe 1.5 hours at the most is sufficient. Whether you like it or not depends. I've heard people who love it and others who were disappointed.
I'm a chocoholic but hate Nutella ... though all of my European friends agree that it does indeed taste better in Germany than it does in North America.
I was pleasantly suprised by it and I studied cocoa production and the trade of cocoa at uni, so I am a bit of a nerd when it comes to the subject. The museeum is not just about Lindt, but covers basicly everything about chocolate and cocoa from cultivation, comodity trade, chocolate production and the history of chocolate to the economic and religous significance of cocoa in the Aztec empire before the spanish arrived.
I enjoyed the museum, but agree that 1-1.5 hours is plenty. And budget some money for the gift shop - after seeing all that chocolate, you will buy some "souvenirs" even if you didn't expect to going in!
