We are going to be driving from Colmar to Stuttgart and are looking for a place in between to stay a night (or two) to break up the drive. Baden Baden and Strasbourg are two obvious considerations, but we are open to anywhere. If you weren't in a rush, where would you stay?

You might consider Freiburg im Breisgau, it is covered in the RS guidebook. Then a drive through the Black Forest villages with a stop at Cafe Diva in Hinterzarten for some elegant Schwarzwälderkirschtorte (Black Forest Cherry Cake) as recommended to us by local friends. If you love the Alsatian vibe of Colmar, go to Strasbourg or do a day trip while in Colmar. If you are ready for something different go to the Black Forest and then on to Stuttgart.

Strasbourg and Baden-Baden are two good choices. The trip from Colmar to Stuttgart is only 2 1/2 hours. I hate checking in and out of hotels -too much wasted time. Consider splitting your extra time between Colmar and Stuttgart and doing day trips instead.

We have stayed in both Freight and Strasbourg and they are both great choices. I don't think you could go wrong with either.
