Hello! My husband and I will be in Europe for 12 days from the end of July through the beginning of August. We are flying in and out of Frankfurt. We are looking to do 3 locations-two longer stays (4-5 days) in Colmar and Lauterbrunnen and one short stay in Germany. Any recommendations on where to go in Germany? We have never been and are looking for a location that makes geographic sense with our route, but also contains some WWII history.

Your route will be determined about the airport(s) you plan to use. Any idea about that?
I would suggest taking a day trip from Colmar over to Freiburg during your Colmar stay. Then if you fly out of a nearby German airport like Stuttgart or Frankfurt, you could see a little of something else near one of those places. Black Forest? Rhine River Valley? German Wine Road, or Half-timbered Route? Since you have perhaps just 3 days on one end or the other of your trip, I probably wouldn't insist on visiting a Nazi documentation center or a concentration camp, places which will only send you on an additional longer journey that subtracts from the interesting things you might see and do close by.
In DE stay in Baden-Baden.
Black Forest, Triberg or Titisee
