Collision coverage for rental car

Unfortunately, I don't have CDW coverage on my credit card and I am wondering where anyone here might have purchased theirs, ideally prior to renting the car. From what I see online, this coverage is usually part of a bigger health/cancellation insurance plan, which I don't need.

Thanks in advance.

Simple solution might be to apply for a CC that would give you coverage. I was just looking at 1 week rentals in Munich on the AutoEurope website and the difference in renting a compact car with CDW vs. without from either Europcar or Hertz is $25-30US. No need to go hunting for a separate policy.

CDW is never given by credit cards in Europe, it is a North American peculiarity. The standard in Europe is for CDW to be offered by the car hire company, that is what a majority of their customers take. If you don't take their CDW, expect a large "hold" to be put on your credit card to cover them for the risk of any damage to the car.

Third Party insurance (legal liability for damage to other vehicles, property or injuries to others) is a legal requirement and will be included in the rental price.

Thanks, everyone, for the replies.

I’m going to call my insurance company today & see what they suggest. Barring that, I might just have to pay the rental company fee. It’s only for 3 days, so might just be easiest that way.
