Our group of 5 adults is planning to visit the Mosel in late May and we are debating as to whether to stay in Bernkastel or in Cochem for 2 nights. We have a car to explore the area and will probably take in Burg Eltz. We will probably not be taking a river cruise. If we decide to stay in Bernkastel we are thinking of perhaps staying at the Hotel Drei Koenige. If we were to stay in Cochem, given that we have a car and would like a hotel with parking, what would you suggest? Do you have any suggestions as to whether it would be better to stay in Bernkastel or in Cochem? Any advice on the town or hotels would be appreciated.
Either town would be good. It might depend on where your next night will be. Both towns are full of tourists. B-K is a bit more German cute and atmospheric. Perhaps feels more genuine and village-like. Cochem is still not bad, close to burg Eltz and it has its own castle. Can't comment on hotels as we rented an apartment in Zell.
Hi,
We visited both Cochem and Bernkastel. To us they seemed very similar, but we liked Cochem a bit better. We stayed a few minutes across the river (Mosel) from Cochem in Valwig at the Hotel Rebenhof. Nice place, free parking and Cecilia (owner/hostess) speaks some English, if that matters.
Burg Eltz was the absolute highlight of our 4 night stay.
We have our photos of both (10/07 trip) at:
