Cochem (Moselle R) Updates

We are in Cochem for 3 days (starting 24 April). Took the train up from Trier with no problems. The DB app works great and and easy ride to up here. €38 for the 2 of us. Having a car would be a complication: narrow streets, limited parking, and large pedestrian only area

  • Walked over to laundry that is mentioned in the guidebook. It is closed due to illness according to the sign on the door. The hotel manager says it is unlikely to be reopened and that she was planning to close it permanently later in the year.

  • Staying at the Boutique Hotel Lohspeicher. Located on a nice quiet side street, The owner and wife are chefs and operate the restaurant on the ground floor.

Good that you are staying in the handsome old town! A nice spot to be and not very far from the station.

Some additional details about train travel here that might be helpful to others...

Trier and Cochem share the Mosel River railway; regional trains provide a short, simple and direct ride between them. The €38 fare for two represents a small discount off the normal price for this one-way trip and was made possible by the "Rheinland-Pfalz Ticket", which is available on the app or at ticket machines at any train station for use with regional trains. But the R-P ticket is actually much more than just a one-way fare; it's a day pass valid for unlimited travel around a much larger region throughout two different German states - Rheinland-Pfalz and Saarland.

Well the weather's not the best, but take what you can get. Get some good pastry at Backerei Lutz. You can also jump on the train and go upriver three stops (about 15 minutes) to Bullay. It's a nice change of pace and not as crowded.
