I forgot to validate my metro ticket in Berlin and received a citation with a €60 fine to be paid to the BVG. However it was on a weekend and the office was not open and we are departing on Sunday. Has anyone had any experience with either paying through the scan code on the ticket or not paying at all? We are tempted to not worry about it and not pay as leaving Germany on Sunday. Appreciate your experiences or if it happened in any other country for you as well. Thanks.
Pay the ticket.
You should pay the fine, here is an English page that appears to allow you to pay online: https://www.bvg-ebe.de/en
Please be a good citizen of this planet and pay your fine.
You'll feel better afterwards if you "do the right thing."
My marginally off-topic comment to future readers: The Deutschland ticket (€58/mo.) covers unlimited use of trams, subways, buses and regional trains throughout the entire country. Individual ticket purchases are unnecessary with the D-Ticket. Getting fined for failure to validate is not possible because validation is not required. The D-Ticket serves as an insurance plan against user errors like this one - and against other errors too (like buying a BVG one-way ticket at the wrong price level for your trip - or getting on a regional train that's going the wrong direction with a one-way ticket; such errors also result in hefty fines.)
This is one reason I always use the local public transport app to purchase tickets..
