Christmas pyramids

Hi when I was little we had a a Christmas pyramid (the candle powered carousel like Christmas decorations) from when my Dad was stationed in Germany. I would love to get one on my trip. Would I be able to find them in May?

Käthe Wohlfahrt sells that kind of stuff year-round, particularly the stores in Rothenburg. You find them located in places with a lot of tourist foot-traffic.

Most large cities will have a store where you can buy authentic items like this that are made in Germany. I see them in select souvenir stores in Frankfurt, Wiesbaden, Mainz, Heidelberg, St. Goar, Munich, etc.

Sure. In many big cities you can find shops which specialize in products from the Ore mountains, where these Christmas pyramids, and many other wooden Christmas toys, come from (look for the "Echt Erzgebirge" label). However: the selection is limited. If you are serious about shopping it's highly recommended to visit the Ore mountains, which are 90 min to the south of Dresden. The epicentre is Seiffen, a village with nothing but Christmas shops. Some impressions:
Weihnachtshaus, Seiffener Volkskunst, Dregeno

And here are two nice trip reports:

Hi Julie-I purchased one in April 2018 at the Wohlfahrt store in Oberammergau. So there is hope that you will find one on your travels!

Enjoy your trip!

All the big cities have a K. W. Store (Berlin, Cologne, Heidelberg, Nuremberg, etc.) The pyramids are beautiful but very expensive. They are big so you will want to have it shipped home. K.W. does a great job with packing and shipping. I have had several packages delivered and the merchandise has always been perfect. BYW, if you take a trip in early December you can shop at the Christmas Markets and have a great selection of pyramids!

You can always check eBay.de. Search for Weihnachtspyramide. Ask first if they will ship to the USA. As mentioned find them in the Erzgebirge; Seiffen, Annaberg-Buchholz etc.

NO, don't order from Amazon! Buy local and stop giving this huge company your money.

You can't buy the good stuff at Amazon anyway. And stores like Käthe Wohlfahrt offer a very limited selection at premium prices. You rarely see modern designs (like this) in such stores. Or woodcarvers from the western Ore mountains (like this).
If you want choice and good prices you need to visit the manufacturers in the Ore mountains. Period. You can save up to 20-30% if you buy there.
