Christmas markets near Heidelberg

Will be in Heidelbeg evening of Nov 27 through Dec 1st; based their for my fiance’s work in Walldorf. We Fly in and out of Frankfurt. I have Stayed in Heidelberg several times now and love it and done many day trips from there. But never been during Christmas Market season and wondering for my limited time best markets to see with short train rides since hotel will be in Heidelberg. I of course will visit Heidelbergs markets and have heard Mainz is good and have to be in Mainz one evening for work dinner anyways so think that will be on my list. Thanks for any recommendations.

A big yes to Mainz. It is a gorgeous Christmas market. Also recommend Speyer, which is less an hour direct from Heidelberg. A great town in and of itself, but also another really nice Christmas market. Sadly, Mannheim's Christmas market was cancelled last year when we were there, but I've read good things and the pictures look beautiful. Finally, Ladenburg has a small weekends-only market, so you'd have to visit on your arrival evening of the 27th, which may be too much. It won't compare to the others, but Ladenburg is such a charming, picturesque town that the Christmas market should give a classic "gingerbread village" feel.

I have never been to the Weihnactsmarkt in Speyer, but a nice town. Looks like an S Bahn can get you there under an hour as mentioned above (I drove). Used to be some really nice resturants in and around the Altstadt. Saumagen and Maultaschen.

Have you been to Bad Wimpfen? Always worth a trip but double so during the Christmas Market. Unlike many other its only open on the first three advent weekends Friday to Sunday. (25-27. Nov + 2.-4.Dec + 9.-11.Dec). Its about 45minutes by train from Heidelberg

We're in Heidelberg now. Hope you have discovered Old Heidelberg and the many Christmas markets here, they're great.
The Heidelberg Castle is a fantastic place, whether you decide to go on the tour or not, it's really cool even without the tour.
Try Vetter's for some great authentic atmosphere and food, its delicious and the service is quick.
Just strolling thru old Heidelberg is a treat both architecturally and the shops are plentiful.
We've had a great stay in our airbnb, using busses to get around is easy.
Hope you enjoy your time here.

Loved Vetters! We went there a couple times. They are also a nice one to visit this time of year. Good decor and a few holiday specials, as I recall.
