Charming gasthaus near Munich airport?

I'm planning a trip for next June. We will fly into Munich, arriving mid-afternoon, rent a car, and spend one night near the airport before heading to Mittenwald to start a 3 week road trip. We've been to Munich before and stayed in the center. This time I'm looking for a charming gasthaus near the airport. I don't want to drive into the city, or spend another hour on a train to get to the city center. Just a nice evening to start off the trip with good food and beer. We're traveling with my sister and her husband, who have never been to Europe. We'll be tired after a long flight and want someplace with character and a great breakfast. Any suggestions?

Take a look at Freising. It is close to the airport and home to Weihenstephaner, the oldest brewery in the world. It has a nice restaurant and patio. I deliberately chose a pension without charm but within walking distance since I take drinking and (not) driving very seriously in Europe. A designated driver or car service/taxi would give you more lodging options. Kloster Andechs is another great beer destination but maybe an hour from the airport by car.

I definitely second Freising and the Weihenstephan. If the weather is nice and you are feeling more nature-loving, you can go to their Plantage Biergarten in the woods north of Freising. You can always go to their brewery and restaurant on the edge of town--it's beautiful! Downtown Freising is really cute, too, and it has food options if you don't want to go to the Weihenstephan.

A traditional Bavarian Wirtshaus and Hotel in Freising is the Bayerischer Hof. I usually stay there when I have an early flight that I could not reach by train. (restaurant still closed due to covid presently, but will be reopen soon).

Yes, we stayed in Freising and enjoyed it (except that it was snowing when we arrived!).

We also enjoy Freising and have stayed several times at the Hotel Bayerischer Hof. Good rooms, staff and breakfast.

We really liked a restaurant about 10 minutes from the hotel: Weißbräu Huber. Good atmosphere, service and food. Reservations are a good idea on the weekend.

Walks up to both the Weihenstephan Brewery and the Domberg (Cathedral on the Hill) are scenic. The town is laced with streams further making for a peasant visit. We try to spend a day there as well as the night.

One suggestion, after you land, take the bus to Freising from the airport. Check into your hotel, several are by the bus stop/train station, then take the bus from this main station to Weihenstepahn (bus 18 or 19, I forget which one exactly). Next day take the bus back to the airport to pick up your car, this saves you a day on the car rental and you get to drink great beer and eat some good food and not worry about driving!

There is now a Regional Express train that runs once an hour between Freising and the Munich Airport. Its final destination is Regensburg. The train ride only takes 10 minutes compared to twenty minutes by bus, but the bus runs more often.

Freising is actually older than Munich! Small but interesting town.
