Changing Trains At Munich Hbf

I have not ridden many trains in Europe, so I have a question about logistics.

I will be taking a train from Frankfurt Hbf to Salzburg Hbf in September. The trip has 1 change in Munich with a 17 minute window to go between trains. The platforms for the Frankfurt and Salzburg trains seem to be on nearly opposite sides of the station. Has anyone had experience in changing trains in Munich? Do you think 17 minutes is enough time? Also, if the Frankfurt train is late, can I take the next train to Salzburg on my original train ticket? Any information will be greatly appreciated.

It is about 500 yds, and at a relaxing walking pace, 10 minutes should be sufficient. If your inbound train is too late for you to make the connection, you can take the next available train.

Don't worry. The train from Frankfurt will arrive at the north side of the main hall (approximately platform 20) and from there it is about 300 metres to the departure point of the Salzburg train (platforms 5-10). DB's official transfer time between the main hall and platform 5-10 is 10 minutes, but despite my age (70+) I claim to be able to make it in five minutes. Access to platform 5-10 is along the southern wall of the main hall via platform 11 (signposted). Pl. 5-10 are located outside the main hall to the west (from where the trains enter the main hall).

I.e. ÖBB's RJ, DB's EC and the local BRB, but not Westbahn trains, which is a private company that does not share tickets with the other carriers.

If you're on time, 17 minutes is enough to squeeze in a stop to the convenience mart / bakery and grab a beer and a bite for your second leg.
