Central Berlin hotel for 80-something mom

Hi, my 80-year-old mother and I will be sight-seeing in Berlin for a week in early May. We’d like to stay somewhere “central” so it’s a short-ish walk to the major sites and/or transit station. I’m looking for a hotel that has breakfast on site and ideally lunch and dinner as well (or failing that good meal options steps away). Budget of roughly $200-$300/night and something on the unpretentious side (Mom won’t feel comfortable in a “fancy” place).

Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I stayed at the Myer’s hotel. Safe, clean, comfortable and have breakfast available. Not sure about dinner as we dined elsewhere. U barn subway station a couple of blocks away and. Tram stop about 1 block in the opposite direction. Not walking distance to major sites but some restaurants are within walking distance.

Have you looked at the Adina Hackescher Market in Berlin. It's an Aparthotel where you have a little kitchenette so you can buy food and cook small meals-no oven. You are only about a 10 min walk from Museum Island and there is a whole arcade of restaurants and shops close by.

You may want to consider the area around Gendarmenmarkt. It is a picturesque square with many "full-service" hotels in your price range. If you are ok with chains, there is a very well-located Hilton, the Hotel Luc, or NH Collection Berlin Mitte am Checkpoint Charlie to name a few.

There is a good variety of restaurants/cafes close by (everything from a nice-but-not-too-fancy Augustiner pub with traditional Bavarian/German food to sushi), a huge Rewe grocery store for snacks/drinks, pharmacy and DM drugstore nearby, and you have access to plenty of transit options (Stadtmitte UBahn station will get you to more or less everywhere with minimal connections, short walk to Bus 100 sightseeing route). It's about a 5-10 minute walk to Unter den Linden, 10 min to Checkpoint Charlie and about 15-20 to the Brandenburg Gate or the German History Museum/Museum Island area. Berlin is sprawling, so it is hard to be near all the major sights, but this location is very central without being too overwhelming. There is also a wonderful antiquarian shop selling old prints/maps across the from Augustiner restaurant - I always make a point to stop by and browse, the maps and prints make a nice souvenir too.

Otherwise, agree Hackescher Markt area could also be a good option, though slightly less walkable to everything (but good transport connections).

I really enjoyed my stay at the Adina Apartment Hotel Hackescher Markt. My studio apartment came with a microwave, sink, refrigerator, coffee maker, dishwasher and so on, and was quite spacious and nice. Breakfast is provided for a fee, and it was very good. I especially love the convenience of this place to all the sites. It is very close to Museum Island, Brandenburg gate, the TV tower, St Marienkirche, and the Berliner DOM, and is a short distance away from Lindenstrasse. The DDR museum is just a few blocks away as well.

They are a lot of really good restaurants nearby, wine shops, and several grocery stores, including a Rewe market and an organic market. And there is a lot of public transportation nearby as well. You are just a few steps from an S-Bahn station that will take you directly to the train station or elsewhere in the city and bus and tram stops are also close by. There are several fun markets in the neighborhood as well, such as Hackesche Höfe, which I loved. And dozens of cafés and bakeries in the vicinity. I would definitely stay here again.

The Holiday Inn Express Berlin City Center is a reasonable option, clean, safe, not fancy, a nice breakfast is included and it is walking distance to several things. It also has an elevator if you need that for luggage.
