Cell to Cell call while in Germany

My Airbnb host gave me his neighbor's cell number as she will let me in when I arrive in Munich. I will be texting from my American cell (T-Mobile) to her German cell. He gave me a number which looks like this 49 (0) 177-346-1417
Does anyone know if I dial the whole thing including the zero in parentheses? I know 49 is the country code for Germany. Thanks

You would key in the number as 00 - 49 177-346-xxxx Or, the way it is more often written, with a + in stead of the 00, dial +49-177-346-xxxx . (if you were calling from a German phone to a German number you would keep the 0 but drop the country code 49.

To get a + on your cell phone, hold down the 0 key.

(If that is a real phone number you posted, I would edit it like I have to conceal it.)

You might also install WhatsApp on your phone (assuming it is a smart phone) and ask if the neighbor uses WhatsApp - its very popular in Europe. That would make calling free if you want to make a voice call instead of texting.

Thanks (the number posted above is not the actual number, just the pattern)
