Is it possible to get a day-long, round trip bus tour to the Neuschwanstein castle area from Innsbruck? We will be there for three days this coming summer. Taking the train seems very long and slow.
Why all the way to Neuschwanstein to see a 19th-century fantasy castle while you've got some authentic ones around the corner in Innsbruck? The Schloß Ambras is at walking distance from the city centre and in less than an hour you can be in Landeck.
Why not rent a car for the day? Easy.
I do see Viator showing a small group tour for $600. Outrageous!
I can understand someone wanting to visit Neuschwanstein. It’s a dream of so many, including myself long again. Glad I saw it. I would rent a car. Easy 1.5 hour drive. Maybe 2 hours tops. Beautiful scenery along the way. Go via the Fern Pass, Reutte, Fuessen. While there, head to Tegelberg, a mile away from the castle, and ride the luge ride (Sommerrodelbahn) and /or the cable car trip.

I've been there, my wife hasn't. While it's not my desire to go back, she wants to! Thanks to everyone for the ideas!

When I read the topic my first thought was Ambras too, but then I remembered that "the castles" always means Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau.... :D
