Castle for Lodging?

Hey Folks,
We have a European trip planned in June/July that includes 10-12 days in Germany. The rough itinerary will be something like Salzburg, Munich, Reutte, Rothenburg and the Rhine region. We're trying to include my kids in the planning (5&7 currently) and the 7 year old is totally enamored by the idea of staying in a Castle for a night or two. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm guessing that we can find something in the Rhine area since it is pretty much littered with castles, but I wanted some input from the community here. Thanks for the tips!

Most of the castle-hotels have more of a couples focus. We enjoyed our stay at the Diez castle hostel, a great place for kids and families. Diez is a small attractive town in the Rhineland-Palatinate's Lahn River Valley, not far from the old-world town of Limburg and the Rhine River town of Koblenz. Our family room with bath was very comfortable. The breakfast/dining room and the pub on site are quite nice. Unlike the Bacharach hostel on the Rhine, which is 500 stair-steps above the town, you can set out from Diez castle and enjoy the town on foot very easily. The walk from the station to the castle is easy if you're using trains. Besides the fact it's a castle, kids will likely enjoy being around other kids as well as the minor recreation facilities there.

There's a popular bike path along the Lahn River that cuts through Diez, if that interests you. Diez has a rental outlet.

Our son and I stayed in the 800 year old Burg Stahleck in Bacharach. The climb to the castle wasn't bad. You get great views of the Rhein River as you get higher. It's a German Hostel (DJH) with a few rules. A lot of school classes stay there. It's easy to make contact with other travellers from all over the world. The buffet breakfast is included in the price. Pre-reservation is a must - it's extremely popular and a number of families/guests were turned away because they had no reservation. https://www.hihostels.com/hostels/bacharach
