We are planning to spend two days in Fussen. One to do castles and one to do the town. We are staying at the Hirsch hotel.
Question When coming from Munich by train, is is better to do the castle tour on the day you arrive or do it the next day and hope to make the last train back to Munich? When does the last train to Munich leave Fussen?

If you come out from Muich on the first train after 9 Am, you should have plenty of time to visit Neuschwanstein that day, particularly if you have reservations, but I would do the castle tour on the day after you arrive.
The last train back to Munich leaves Füssen at about 10:30 PM, arriving in Munich after midnight.
