CASH for Cochem?

Hello! RS book (printed 2015) said I would need to bring cash to pay for everything in the towns on Mosel River - hotels, food, and adventure.

It this still the case? We are staying in Cochem and renting bikes. Of course we will enjoy the delicious local food and wine as well!

So - Is there an ATM (preferably connected to a bank) in the town of Cochem?

Thanks,
Melany

I'm in the area now and I have been using my card a LOT. If it's just a couple of Euros, I will pay with cash but just about every place accepts credit cards.

I've come across only two places that didn't - the cafe on board the KD ferry boat and the Deutsche Post office. :)

There are ATMs all over and I can guarantee you will find them in the larger trains stations (I used the one at Koblenz today). Just look for the signs for Geldautomat (I think they're blue and yellow). I have found it harder to find ATMs at banks (I looked all over town one day and couldn't find one), but have had no problems with the train station ones.

2015 is another world since the spread of contactless and covid. I'm afraid that to a degree that is quite old advice.

Nothing current, but when we stayed in Cochem our B&B only accepted cash. Now idea how it is now.

"our B&B only accepted cash"

Not unexpected, a mom & pop offering, and you would have known about the cash need before arrival.

Thank you all for your helpful input! We are staying in an apartment - Ichzeit. I think the whole small complex is like a hotel because breakfast downstairs is included! I'll just ask. They are also renting us e-bike to use while there.

I figured that things had changed since Covid. I feel better knowing we'll be able to get cash easily if we need it!

@periscope - On that trip, we didn’t have advance reservations since we didn’t know where we’d end up nightly. We had no idea it only accepted cash, but we always have some so it wasn’t an issue. On our 2019 Wales trip, even with advance reservations the hotel in Aberystwyth only accepted cash and we had no idea. Your statement that one would know in advance, isn’t correct. Travel has a way of throwing a curve ball every now and then.

If your at the Bus station to catch a bus up to the castle there is one at the visitor's center. Not in the building but on the outside. Also one right down the block. We have been in Cochem many times and I never ran into a cash only business. Doesn't mean they aren't doing business there I just never been to one.

sla, this was in Nuremberg that I was looking for ATMs in the town. I was actually looking for a specific shop but keeping an eye out for ATMs as well, and did not find any (I'm sure there were some, but maybe just not in the area I was looking). However, I did find one at the train station and so that's my go-to now for cash.

I do know that you can only find them in the larger train stations (I think I said that). I know that Boppard and Gengenbach did not have them, but Koblenz and Nuremberg did.
