Car rental Munich to Frankfurt

I am planning to rent a car in Munich and spend two days driving to Frankfurt.

Any suggestions on car rentals or which route to take?
Thinking of going to see Dachau on my way out of Munich.

Thank you

From Munich, you go on the autobahns A3 and A9--through Stuttgart. It's about 240 miles or 4 hours if you're driving in the right lane. In the left lane driving a big Merc or Bimmer, it'd be closer to a 2 hrs. 15 minute drive.
By all means, go to see Dachau. We took our daughter there when she was 12 years old, and it made quite an impression.
We always rent from Hertz direct or AutoEurope.com--which ever one's cheaper. You'll save big if you pickup the car in a city center location vs. at a train station or airport.

Whichever lane you are in you won't get there in great hurry. That area is infamous for its bad traffic, construction and stau.

Correction to the above... the combinations of A9-A3 doesn't go through Stuttgart. It runs via Ingolstadt, Nürnberg, Würzburg and Aschaffenburg. To get from Munich to Frankfurt via Stuttgart, you would take A8, with a choice then of either going all the way west to Karlsruhe then north on A5, or A81 to A6 to A5. As Nigel noted, traffic on A8 can be murderous, but it has some nice scenery.

I don't have the time right now to do a full write-up of all the options and everything you might consider seeing along the way, but the strongest recommendation I can give briefly is to drive along the Neckar river valley from Bad Wimpfen (and take a look at that town too) to Heidelberg. The scenery is similar to the Rhine- a steep valley lined with castles and scenic towns.

I missed the road number error, Tom. In my mind's eye I was envisioning (and hating) the A8, which of course it is.
