We will be taking a train from Venice to Munich, then renting a car and driving to Duisburg. What is the best rental location in Munich, that is closest to the train station and easy to get to?
The one city in Germany you DO NOT want a car in is Munich. I strongly suggest that you get it when you leave Munich.
It is easy to get turned around in central Munich, the parking is terrible, and the traffic isn't much fun.
I agree with Nigel. We lived near Munich for a few years, and NEVER drove into the city if we could avoid it. I'd recommend finding a rental site on the outskirts near a Uban or Sban stop, and use these to get from the train station to your car rental.
Rent the car as you leave the city, not when you arrive. Several rental agencies have offices in the Hauptbahnhof. It's not too hard to navigate out of the city from here.
Agree with everyone else...rent a car as close to the outskirts as possible. I had to drive in Munich once and it was NOT a pleasure.
