We would like to rent a car in Frankfurt and drive to Bamberg, Germany. I am 85 years old. Is there an age restriction on renting cars to seniors?
It will probably depend on the rental company. I took a look at Turo, but they don't operate in Germany. I also looked ago AutoEurope.com, which I think is a consolidator (or is that EuropeCar? I can never remember), and it said fees apply for 70+. Give it a whirl!
There is no legal restriction of a max age to rent a car.
Check rental car firms at FRA. Largest ones are Sixt, Avis, Europcar and Hertz.
If your driving license is from a state of USA or Canada you will need to check if your driving license is valid in Germany and if yes you will need IDP. Link to regulation.
From November until April rent winter tires.
Have you ever driven in Germany before? Do you really want to do this? Don't drive at night. Parking spaces are tiny. Ever parked in a Parking Garage? You always need to be looking behind on the Autobahn. Familiarize yourself with signs and laws. Accident and Health Insurance? Sorry, but my 93-year-old father still drives in the US, but I drive when I visit. Too many white-knuckle moments. Be safe and consider the safety of others. Parking in Bamburg requires an App, or Park and Ride unless you have parking at your destination.

From my own multiple experiences driving and parking in Bamberg is not always easy. Sometimes narrow streets and parking occasions.
Addition to Autobahn: Overtaking another car is only allowed on the left side. Therefore the right-lane rule requires every driver to use the most-right free lane if no overtaking is expected in the next 20-30 seconds.
