I will arrive in Nuremberg via bus (from Prague). Not sure where the bus drops us off. What is the best way to pick up a car?
Take a look at gemut.com for excellent information on renting cars in Europe and especially Germany. After you've thoroughly explored the website and read the extensive "What you should know about renting a car in Europe," email them (Andy) for assistance in booking a rental. You'll see a link for that on the website.
I rent my cars from AutoEurope or Kemwell who are brokers for rental companies such as Hertz, Avis, Europcar, etc. You can check for locations in Nuremberg and rates for cars online. You could also call them direct. You really need to find out where the bus is going to drop you off. Is it a tour that you are taking or a public transportation bus? Once you determine where you are arriving in Nuremberg (it's a big city), you can then determine which rental car agency will be closest. Customer service reps for AutoEurope can help you find the closest rental agency. Good luck.
If you are taking the Bahn IC bus from Prague to Nürnberg, it drops you off in front of the Hbf (main train station) in Nürnberg. From there local transportation (U-bahn, S-Bahn) will take you almost anywhere in Nürnberg and trains go almost anywhere in Germany/Europe from there. Public transportation in Germany is efficient and economical. Where are you going and why do you think you need a car?
Actually, now that I am thinking about it, since I am not staying in Nuremberg, but Rothenburg, would it be better to get a car when I am leaving Rothenburg? That way I can travel direct to Rothenburg.
My plan was to arrive in Rothenburg, which will be late afternoon, spend night, see Rothenburg next day, then leave on 3rd day for Munich with stops along the way.
How does this sound?
Note that this is a continuation of this thread. DB train schedules give you the bus details and sell tickets. All the major car rental offices are located at Nuremberg Hbf train station, where the bus arrives from Prague, so that would be an easy place to pick up the car. I don't think that there are any in Rothenburg ob der Tauber. When choosing a pick up point online, "train station" is usually part of the location description.
Thank you, Laura!
There's a Sixt agency inside the Hauptbahnhof. I'm pretty sure the bus drops you off right in front.
