Munich’s Christmas Market has been canceled for 2021.
My guess is that other larger markets will be canceled as well. If you’re headed to the German markets, keep an eye on the news.

I already posted this the other day. No, the other large markets are not getting canceled so far.
Thanks Jo. I only saw it yesterday on CNN. Hopefully some of the smaller markets will be open.
From my former home town newspaper - Erlangen just north of Nuremberg. The answer is that they just don't know yet and it is less than a week before the markets are supposed to start.
ERLANGEN / ERLANGEN-HÖCHSTADT - Will the Christmas markets continue? On Thursday afternoon, November 18, 2021, the German Prime Minister's Conference met - virtually - on the sharply increasing number of infections. In a resolution that was announced in advance, there was talk of, among other things, 2G or 2G plus regulations for leisure events with many participants. This also includes Christmas markets.
So far, there are plans in Erlangen to open the historic Christmas market as well as the forest market Christmas on the Schlossplatz and the Old Town Christmas market on Monday, November 22nd, 2021. In Herzogenaurach, Judith Jochmann from the Office for City Marketing and Culture confirms that there are "B and C plans". Alternatives that would implement specifications such as 2G (vaccinated or recovered) or even 2G plus (with a binding corona test also for vaccinated and recovered people, without which access is denied).
The city of Erlangen stated "We are concerned about the worsening pandemic situation. We therefore hope for clear guidelines for the Christmas markets that can then be implemented on site," says the city's press spokesman Christofer Zwanzig. At the time of going to press (11/18/2021, 4:30 pm local time), however, there was still no clear signal from the Prime Minister's Conference.
We're supposed to be staying in Erlangen for a few days the week before Christmas and were hoping to take our kids to the Christmas market. Hopefully they can still find a way to open with sufficient safety precautions. So sad to see everything unravelling.
This just in from DW, Bavaria is canceling all Christmas Markets:

Disasterous for the vendors who have invested and in souvenirs and food items, sad for the inhabitants who look forward to their markets every year, financial stress for the cities that have invested the infrastructure, unemployment for others.
