Canceling My Deutschland Ticket

I used FahrPlaner app to purchase my June Deutschland ticket on June 1. I now want to cancel it so I don't get charged for July. Does anyone know how to cancel it?. I can't seem to find the location in the app to cancel going forward (after June 30).

I know I need to cancel by the 10th of the month.
Thanks,

Tom

When purchasing via Fahrplaner App, you should have received an email with an order confirmation. This contains a link to the cancellation. In the german version it says "Abo kündigen", unfortunately I don't know for the english version.

SLA019,

Thank you so much for your response. I looked for the confirming email and I found it buried in my inbox. I then tried to cancel but, as you said, the cancellation section of the website was in German. Oops! (tough for me).

It did give me a 24 hour phone number to call (+49 421 59 60 59). I got instructions from a very helpful agent where to send an email.

Thanks again for your help.

Tom

Tom, for future use, you might want to consider using Google Translate with your browser. It's easy to translate pretty much any language instantaneously.

In the past, I have used Google translate a few times. At the time I was trying to cancel, it didn't occur to me to use it! (senior moment) lol

Abo is short for Abonnement (subscription); kündigen means to cancel. Thus, cancel your subscription.

I know this is an older thread, but for anyone searching like I just did for how to cancel the Deutschland Ticket subscription, I appear to have found a new way 😜.

If you use Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal as your payment method, the regional transit authority (in my case SSB, Stuttgart Strassenbahnen AG) is unable to charge the payment method for the ongoing subscription. Thus they automatically cancel the subscription. The first payment goes through as authorized by you at the time of purchase. Then their system automatically unsubscribes you immediately for future months and sends a cancellation email. No muss, no fuss. I've carefully read all the emails and checked the app (I used VVS Mobil, the regional transit authority for Stuttgart/Baden Wuerttemberg.) I DO have a valid ticket for December, as I wanted, and DO NOT have an ongoing Abo.

I paid for my husband's subscription directly with the same credit card but not via PayPal. I had to follow the cancel subscription link in his email to cancel the future months.

Both paths yielded the same result: valid ticket for December, cancelled for the future, but the PayPal method required fewer clicks FWIW.

Here is the exact text from the cancellation email for your reference:

"It was not possible for us to use the deposited charge payment method. That's why we had to cancel your DeutschlandTicket subscription.

The reason for this may be:
You paid for your first purchase of the DeutschlandTicket with ApplePay, GooglePay or PayPal.
In this case, it is not possible for us to make another debit using the payment method you have chosen.
We therefore ask you to use the credit card or SEPA direct debit payment method for your next DeutschlandTicket purchase." [Bolding mine]

In both cases, it was easy to purchase, easy to unsubscribe, and I presume it will be easy to use once we arrive in Stuttgart in a few weeks.

Nelly,

I think you purchased your D-ticket, using either a credit card/pay pal/apple pay from VSS, and not Deutsche Bahn.

You were probably never charged by Deutsche Bahn, it was MVV.

Correct. The only payment method possible with DB is direct debiting, not by credit card or Google Pay, etc.

Correct, I paid via the VVS Mobil app, as I indicated. I have been charged for both tickets by SSB, Stuttgarter Strassenbahnen AG. The "your subscription has been automatically cancelled" email also came from SSB.

I never tried buying the DeutschlandTicket via Deutsche Bahn or I'm sure I would not have been offered PayPal as a payment method. But VVS did offer it and the setup of PayPal as a payment method worked just fine.

In any case, all is well and I assume this payment method would also work for others using regional transit apps. Not that it matters much, just another data point for those using the DeutschlandTicket
