Can you get on the Rhine River from Frankfurt?

Is it possible to get directly on the Rhine River after arriving in Frankfurt (via air)? I saw another post that recommended going via train to Bingen and getting on the river there but we were hoping to get on the river earlier, if possible. My son saw somewhere that you could take a shuttle bus from the airport to the river in about 20 minutes. Thanks so much!

Are you talking about a day cruise from Frankfurt to the Rhine and back to Frankfurt? Or are you talking about using the boat to get from Frankfurt to a destination along the Rhine? The Rhine river does not run through Frankfurt, that is the Main River. There are day cruises from Frankfurt on the Main to the Rhine but I think they do boat one way and bus one way as that is a long trip on the two rivers. Look at a map. Frankfurt International Airport is a little to the SW of the city, and the Rhine flows in a generally south to northwest direction a bit further more to the west . And where exactly do you want to go on the Rhine? You could probably get to the river very quickly via Wiesbaden, but this isn't the scenic section most people have in mind.

You can get to the Rhine by train, either the right side via Wiesbaden and then Rüdesheim, or the left side up to Bingen.

If your son is talking about a shuttle bus, this is one of those ETS tours that you will find for sale on Viatour. They do pick ups at the airport, but figure on paying at least 85 € per person for the bus trip, a short boat ride, expensive wine tasting and a crappy lunch. Read the reviews on Trip Advisor.

Cheaper is to buy your own train ticket, and get 20% off on your ship ride when you show it to the cashier selling the tickets at the KD dock. Everyone in the tourist industry speaks enough English to help you find your way easily.
