Calling taxis in Cochem

Hi, I’ll be staying in Cochem for 5 nights and will need to make trips to Aldi to do grocery shopping (which is around 45 mins away by foot from my airbnb). Can I check how easy it is to call for a taxi in Cochem? Do the taxi companies speak English? Will need the taxi to go to Aldi and return from Aldi after

I have never found a taxi necessary in Cochem, so can't answer your question directly. Personally, I would take a bus. The main square in town (Endertplatz) sends off buses to the "Einkaufszentrum Cochem-Cond" shopping center stop, a 7-minute trip. I would then walk (3 minutes) to the Aldi at Markweg 1 from there. The route has multiple bus options... for example...

Bus 712 leaves Endertplatz every half hour at :29 and :59 after.

You can find all bus connections between the above-named stops by using the trip-planner:

Of course I don't know where you are staying exactly. Maybe you will need one of those folding two-wheelie grocery baskets if you plan on a large haul. You can take those on the bus.

There are taxi's. You will be fighting with 6000-9000 tourists a day for their services. They will not wait for you to do your shopping, you will have to arrange a separate return trip. They will probably speak English, Cochem is a tourist town, but then they may not.

You should ask your landlord if there will be bikes available for use, and plan on using them to cross the bridge and travel to Aldi or Rewe. There are smaller markets within the main tourist area; they can probably fill your daily requirements.

Another option would be to get on the train, take it down to Bullay (a 10 minute ride), and then walk about 200 yards to the Edeka. Bullay is really nice, there are usually swans along the river banks (they like croissants), and the rotating statue of the girl holding her dress in front of her is a local landmark.
