Call for strike at 11 German airports on Monday (March 10)

The trade union ver.di is extending its warning strikes to eleven German airports. Employees in the public sector and ground handling services are called to strike all day on Monday.

The airports affected are Munich, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Cologne/Bonn, Düsseldorf, Dortmund, Hanover, Bremen, Hamburg, Berlin-Brandenburg and Leipzig-Halle. Passengers must therefore be prepared for flight cancellations and delays.

Transfer traffic will also be affected. Passengers should check with their airlines on the flight status before coming to the airport. Information regarding your flight is available on your airline’s website. Check also the website of the airport.

Alternatives are train(s), rental car or move date of flight.

  • Frankfurt Airport (FRA) is completely suspending regular flight operations on Monday.
  • Airport association ADV expects that more than 500,000 travelers are affected by the strikes.

Lots of other strikes happening too.
In Frankfurt, U-bahns and Trams are on strike the 11th and 12th. This may affect other cities too. Check the local transport websites. For the Rhein-Main region: www.rmv.de

Update: Hamburg Airport closed today [Sunday] - unannounced warning strike started already

From website of Hamburg airport:
"Without any notice, the union ver.di has called on the aircraft handling services at Hamburg Airport to go on strike immediately today, Sunday 9 March. For this reason, the airport is closed and there will be no departures or arrivals all day. Please contact your airline if you have any questions about your flight.

Tomorrow, Monday 10 March, verd.i has also called for a strike in several areas of the airport, including aircraft handling and passenger security checks. As a result, flight operations are expected to be significantly disrupted tomorrow. We recommend that all travellers check their flight status regularly and contact their airline if necessary."
