My family wants to purchase some 14-day passes to see the palaces in Munich. Is it better to do this before traveling to Germany or can I easily purchase them when I get over there (without waiting in line for hours?) I looked on the Bavarian Palace Department website (http://www.schloesser.bayern.de/)and it only gives the option to purchase and then have the passes shipped to me. I'd rather not gamble by having them shipped to me when I leave in 4 weeks... Thanks in advance!

According to the website you can also get them from a specialist Palace Department tourist information centre and shop in the Alter Hof in central Munich, which is an old palace now converted into assorted shops, offices and housing. I'd be very surprised if you had to wait very long to buy it at a place like that.

I bought mine at the ticket counter at my first venue, Linderhof. There was no line (and this was during Oktoberfest). As I remember, to use my pass I had to get tickets at the window anyway, so I don't think you will be avoiding lines at the castles.
