Business trip to Aachen - Hotel and weekend sightseeing recommendations?

In about a month, I have to go to Aachen for a week of business meetings, followed by a week in Amsterdam with my client. Flying into Frankfurt and training it to Aachen. I realize that Aachen is not a tourist hot spot, but do any of the well-traveled folks here have any hotel recommendations? Client offices are east of the centrum, but I would probably prefer to stay near the city for the after-hours stuff. Client probably won't care too much about the cost, given what they're used to paying out in Amsterdam.

I have a weekend in between. Been to Amsterdam a bunch of times, so pretty much done with the must-see spots. Was thinking of staying in Aachen and jumping to Cologne. Does anyone have any alternate suggestions? Thanks.

You can get a Rail&Fly ticket if you take Lufthansa from Philly. Of course, maybe the client is not cost conscious, and you can just buy a ticket when you arrive.

Aachen is a very historic city, it was the seat of Charlemagne. Got a bit smashed up during the war, but nicely rebuilt. Also, you are just 54 minutes from Cologne on local trains that go every half hour, so you can visit there as well on an evening or two.

A free weekend, I'd go down to the Mosel valley, or perhaps a cruise on the Rhine. Outdoor type stuff will depend on the weather. Lots of options, depending on your interests.
