Bus from Nuremberg to Prague?

Hello,

I am planning a trip for this summer. In Rick's Germany guide book, he mentions buses departing regularly from Nuremberg to Prague. When I look online, the only buses I see leave very late at night or very early in the morning. I prefer to leave during late morning or early afternoon. Is this something I don't have to book ahead? Can we be confident we will easily find a bus from Nuremberg to Prague in July?

Thank you!

The bus I am aware of Nuremberg and Prague is operated by db Bahr -- German train system. We made that run several years ago. I think it ran hourly from in front of the train station in Nuremberg to the old train station in Prague. Good service with first and second class seating. First was very nice with a beverage service and second had the view from the top of the bus. Maybe a three to four hour run. Don't remember. Probably need a reservation. There were four of us so I had made reservations. We did leave a couple of people behind and they were told that there was space on the next bus. The bus loaded on the small circle drive in front of the Nuremberg train station.

They may not have schedules out that far. In 2019, I was able to buy my October FlixBus ticket 3.5 months in advance, but that may no longer be the case. FlixBus prices are based on demand, and will increase as the bus fills.

If you want to select your seat (which is very inexpensive) you may wish to book ahead. I really loved the view from their front row "Panoramic View" seats, which cost a little extra.

If you travel by FlixBus, I provide a few tips here for purchasing cheaper tickets in other currencies besides dollars.

The book probably refers to the bus service of the DB which was discontinued last year. Czech companies and Flixbus have also sharply reduced their service because of the pandemic. What is left you can find on busradar.com. There is a train about once an hour, but with a change either in Schwandorf (to the train from Munich) or in Cheb (to a train of CD; tickets way cheaper if booked at the e-Shop of CD / Czech Rail).

Thank you so much for the replies! Any idea if the DB bus service will be reinstated if covid rates come down, or is it a permanent cancellation?

DB has discontinued long distance buses permanently. But Flixbus and RegioJet will certainly come back as soon as demand increases.

That is too bad. That was such a nice service. We had taken the train from Munich, had time for a coffee in the station, walked out the front door to the bus. Had first class tickets so a big seat and a glass of wine with snacks as we rolled along.
