Yes, DB site is no longer selling Thalys tickets, so if you want to use the Thalys train, then that is a separate web site. There are a few trains per day departing Brussels that are not Thalys, and probably cheaper, that DB will sell, such as the German ICE departing 10:25, which would be my first choice.

With advance purchase from the Bahn, you can get tickets for a non-Thalys (ICE) connection (several a day, including the 10:25 mentioned above) from Brussels to Munich for a low as 39€/pers.

Deutsche Bahn runs a few high speed trains a day from Brussels to Frankfurt via Liége and Köln (plus one or two other stops). They don't run as frequently as Thalys does to Köln, but the logistics would probably be simpler just taking the Deutsche Bahn option.

But flying is much easier for that distance. If it's scenery you want, the Brussels to Frankfurt portion, for the most part, isn't that interesting. I don't know about Frankfurt to Munich though.

Looked at bahn website, travel day is mid marchand it says no fares available. Do fares only go our 60 days perhaps?

Appreciate the help and information

I got the bahn website running for 6:30 departure from brussels, arriving 1pm munich for 39 euros, cant beat that!

Any idea/suggestion on hotel on old town munich?

Thinking 125-150 USD per night crazy?

Simple hotel, no breakfast, parking, or fancy needed. Private bath a must, other than than simple, safe, clean.

Cliff,

That sounds like the same train I suggested in your other Thread about travelling by air from Brussels to Munich. Have you now bought a ticket?

All hotels in Munich that I've stayed at or checked during trip research seem to provide breakfast with the room. However, you could certainly contact whichever hotel you're considering to find out if they would offer a discount for guests that don't require breakfast. I'm not sure what would be considered the "old town" in Munich, so I'll leave that one for others to comment on.
