Bringing Chocolate into Frankfurt

My husband and I are traveling from the U.S. to Kraków via Frankurt his month. There are some special local chocolates that we’d like to bring relatives that we are visiting in Poland. I understand that we will be going through customs in Frankfurt. Are there any restrictions on bringing chocolate into Frankfurt from the U.S.?

No one is going to check your bags at all. Customs here is not like customs in the US. That said, no one will care about the chocolate. Biggest problem right now is keeping it from melting, as it is so hot.

Just to correct one point. Assuming this is one through ticket (NOT two separate tickets with a stay in Frankfurt in between), then your bags will be labelled through to Kraków and WILL NOT go through customs at Frankfurt.

  • You will go through immigration (passport control) at Frankfurt because this is where you enter the Schengen Area. You will not see your bags at Frankfurt so they WILL NOT go through customs there.
  • You will collect your bags at Kraków, and carry then through customs there. Customs is a random check only, 99.9% of people are not stopped.

As far as I can see there is no ban on chocolate, only that if the total worth of all goods you are bringing in exceeds €430, you must declare them. See here: https://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/individuals/travelling/entering-eu_en
