Hi,

I went back to Bremen last summer for a couple of hours, hadn't been there in 25 years. See the Rathaus. Hamburg is the cultural center of North Germany.

Hamburg- We were there on a Sunday, so shops were closed, but we still enjoyed wandering around. We tried to do the Fischmarkt, which I am told is like a flea market that opens only on early Sunday mornings, but our flight was delayed and we were late in landing. We missed it :( We enjoyed the St Nicholas Church. We took the elevator to the top. It gave us a good orientation to the city. The Rathaus is very beautiful. The speicherstadt had really cool architecture (it is the warehouse district) I wanted to do the Spice Museum, but the jet lag won. We did a quick stop at Beatle Platz to grab a photo.

For Bremen, we were there for a family reunion, so it was a whirlwind weekend. The Focke Museum is cool, it is all in German, but it is a really cool collection of Bremen History. The Art Museum there is also interesting. We enjoyed wandering through the Schnoor lots of cute little shops. Walking through the Altstadt is cool too. Don't forget to find the Musicians of Bremen. The Rathaus there is beautiful. If you can go inside, it is amazing. Someone in our family has connections so we had a private tour. We stayed at the Ibis Downtown Bremen. It has a space theme so my hubby was excited. It was a very cramped room. The bathroom was very very very tight. Like knees hitting the wall while trying to go to the bathroom tight. I also don't recommend parking in their parking garage if you do stay there. It has a very very very steep hill to go down and you have to go back up that same hill. It was not a happy experience trying to get out. The rest of the family stayed at the Hostel and they had a great experience. I really wish we had more free time to explore. But it was great being with family.

If you can get to Bremerhaven the Immigration/Emmigration Museum there is fantastic. We enjoyed walking along the waterfront.

Not too far from Bremerhaven is Cuxhaven. There is a cool place where you can go and watch the seafaring ships exit the Elbe River and enter the North Sea or vise versa. There is a voice over a speaker that announces each ship and gives stats about the ship. Granted it is in German. But really cool none the less. We saw a giant yacht go through, but it wasn't announced. (I did figure out it was the Katara and worth 300 mil. I got a pic and was able to google it for more info) There are also mud flats you can walk on near Cuxhaven when the tide goes out.

The neat part about this area is being on the water.
