Boppard to Marksburg- how-to help needed

I appreciate any and all help. I posted under another thread, but figured it might be missed.
Just arrived in Boppard, and love this little town. Maybe I'm just too tired, but I can't figure out how to get to Marksburg from
Boppard (in the next few days.) It's not that far, but doesn't seem to be as simple as just hopping a train.
Thx so much.
ps
Saw the chair lift from a distance , that definitely on my list, thx for the suggestion.

Train to Koblenz Hbf, change there for 10-minute train ride to Braubach.

KD boats are another option. Train to Braubach whenever, cruise back? (13:05 - 14:00 or 18:55 - 19:45)

It's also possible to use the Boppard ferry, walk into Filsen and catch the train there to Boppard. But that adds to the walking you'll do that day already.

We caught a ferry across the river and took the train north to the stop for Marksburg castle. Could your hotel personnel help? Thats who gave us directions. (We rode bikes to somewhere near Boppard and caught a quick ferry straight across - maybe took 10 minutes), and there was a train station directly on the other side, and I think the stop for the castle was two stops away

The ferry Jessica refers to in Boppard leaves from the waterfront right in town. It's the same one I referred to. But there's nothing in sight across the river except a dock with ramp:

The train you see is heading into Filsen, further downstream, where you can board. But you'll need maybe 15 minutes to negotiate the distance on foot. Click on the map below and zoom out a couple of clicks to find the "Autofähre Boppard" landing on the other side and your way to Filsen station:

I was confused when I looked at the DB site, and buses and KD was mentioned. So one spends more time waiting to connect than actually on the trains? That's fine if that's the correct option. That's what confused me- I thought I missed an easier option.
I was having trouble communicating with staff at the hotel front desk, and the gal didn't understand my question.
Thx to you both for such prompt answers . That KD schedule looked Greek to me when I tried to navigate it.
Will the transportation pass the Boppard hotel suppplied cover this route?
Many thanks to you all!

  • KD schedule: I gave you the only two Braubach > Boppard boat trips for tomorrow. For the opposite direction Boppard > Braubach, there is one boat tomorrow, 10:15 > 10:45. For your purposes, the schedule remains the same for both directions until the end of the travel season, so it's the same for Sunday, Monday...

The Guest Ticket does not cover boats of any kind. The KD fare one way is €12.20, round trip 14.20. Buy dockside.

  • Ferry crossing schedule: the ferry from Boppard to the other side leaves from a different spot on the river and runs every half hour all day long. see "ab Boppard" times under "Samstags..." and "ab Filsen..." for departures from the other side back to Boppard. Fare is €2 each direction. Buy upon boarding the ferry.

The SIMPLEST and CHEAPEST way from Boppard to Braubach is by train only. If that sounds good... When your itineraries pop up, look to the right in the journey boxes where there are some notations, and consider ONLY at the RE, VIA or RB, VIA options. Those are your regional trains. Do NOT consider any with IC, SCHIFF notations (ineligible for your guest ticket.)

The journey box tells you your total travel time for Boppard > Brabauch or vice-versa. You can click on "Show details" to find out what your layover time in Koblenz for that journey is, which tracks to go to for each travel leg, and what time the connecting train leaves.

The very nice man in the KD booth, who looks very bored because this is a cold and grey day, and few customers, just told me boat schedules change tomorrow, as May 1 starts high season.
I think we re doing Marksburg today, going up by 10:15 boat.
I'm confused because the 2:00pm train back seems to involve a bus???? ( DB app).
Perhaps we take the 2:00pm boat back.

We are getting decent seniors discounts on transportation modes .

Once again, the devil is in the details, and our hotel staff seems confused by every question we ask them. The hotel is very nice for everything else.

Thanks again for all your time and energy.

I'll deal with Rheinfels details tomorrow,Sunday,
and chairlift in Boppard on Monday. Chairlift should be walking distance.

Right. But the boat times I gave you will be the same. The boats that get added won't help you with Boppard / Braubach trips.

14:01 bus: Yes, bus connections exist. And you can use that. But the TRAIN 8 minutes earlier at 13:53 will be faster and get you back to Boppard 30 minutes earlier.

If you don't want to take the bus, you could wait for the 2:53 pm train to Koblenz, then transfer to the 3:30 om train to Boppard getting you there by 3:44 pm, only a half hour later than taking the bus route.

Russ and Sam , neither my husband nor myself could find that train on the DB Navigator app, and we have been using the app successfully for the past ten days. Whatever , we took the boat out at 10:15am, only took 30+ minutes, but the bus back around 1:00pm. It did take longer, but at least we didn't get lost, and after walking all the way up and down, it's not like we're going out dancing tonight!
Thanks for so generously sharing your time. It's so cold here today, at 10:00 am it was 48 degrees. ( but felt like 44 degrees -says the weather app.)
Safe travels!

So you have either a tech problem or a user problem. So go old school for your pending train journeys. Stop at the station and check the train schedules. Use the ticket machines on Boppard's station platforms to find your train journeys - then print them or take a pic with your phone. Then you're done - tickets and discounts for VRM zone destinations are irrelevant when you have your VRM Guest ticket with you.

Pat, it's really that cold there? I hope it warms up before I get there on the 8th!

Berlin was sunny and 70 degrees on Friday. Today Nuremberg was mostly in the high 50's although it did get a little chilly in the afternoon when we got a light rain. The rest of the week it's supposed to be in the mid-60's.
