Boppard chair lift

I've seen mentions of the Boppard chair lift. I've visited the area several times but either never noticed the chair lift or it didn't register.

I will be around there next week and wonder what it will be like, and wondering it actually takes 20 minutes up and 20 minutes down? Maybe a bit chilly in April...?

experiences?

The thing is eons old and moves with extreme leisureliness. In any case, the 20 minutes are not that much exaggerated. But the view from the Gedeonseck is worth the time (personally, I felt that I could have skipped the Vierseenblick).

It's just out of town to the north I think? Sesselbahn? There's a double chair called Sessel at my local ski hill, and I remember making some lame joke as we rode past in Boppard to the tune of "I didn't know Sessel went this far ...."

Have you been on the gondolas at Koblenz? Really comfortable, fantastic view, and not open to the chill.

It’s just outside town on the north side. It is slow and can be chilly, but just dress accordingly. I love the view of the Rhine on the descent.

Ms. Jo did a gondola replace the chairlift that went up to the youth hostel across from Koblenz? Maybe I am misremebering the location of that lift/hostel. Thanks :)

They are huge, enclosed cars that could probably hold 20 people inside, if not more. Wheelchairs can access them too.
Is the youth hostel up in the Fortress? The gondolas start near the Deutsche Eck.

The Boppard chairlift is enormously enjoyable. It's so quiet and scenic up there as you ascend and descend. But the ride is only half of the experience. The hiking trails, once you're up top, are very good, the views are fantastic, and Gedeonseck Restaurant/Terrace, a short walk from the top of the lift - with the possible exception of the Günderodehaus in Oberwesel - offers the best outdoor spot for refreshments on this part of the Rhine, IMHO.

The Boppard chair lift is great- it was a 10-15 minute walk from our hotel at the center of town. Definitely recommend it!

The last time I rode that chair lift was in 2018. The first time was in 2000. Pretty sure they were the same chairs each trip. My teens thought it was very “sketchy”. It does take a while - much too long for my husband who is afraid of heights! Very wobbly as you go past the towers. Once you get to the top, it’s a short walk to a restaurant with a terrace that has great views and less great food.

There is a stomach-friendly solution: just walk around that restaurant ("Gedeonseck") and you will find a small spot with great views of the whole Rhine bend.

@Russ
Is it possible that your photo is taken from the "Vierseenblick" and not from the Gedeonseck?
