Does anyone know if you can print your ticket at home on your printer when you book a seat on the Romantic Road Coach online? At this point, I don't have time to get a ticket in the mail. If I can't print the ticket online, I would have to wait until I get to Germany to buy it and I want to be sure that I get a seat. I do know the pros & cons of this coach, but I am traveling on my own and would enjoy just riding by without having to drive myself or change trains tons of time. Thanks!
I've never done it, but this site seems to be where you can book the bus.
Just to follow up on my own query, the folks at the Romantic Road Coach company sent me a nice reply to my email telling me that when I book online I will be able to print my ticket at home on my own printer. That answers my question about that and very helpful they were, too. But now I'm rethinking my options trying to decide if it might not be a better use of my time to keep my Fussen rental car, drive the Romantic Road myself and drop the car in Wurzburg, north of Rothenburg. That way I can stop whenever I like and stay as long as I like, but I will miss the recorded commentary that I would have on the bus and have to do the driving myself. Not sure yet what would be best. Any thoughts from anyone out there who has drivien that route or taken the Romantic Road Coach? Thanks!
Yes, if you'll already have a rental car, then I would keep it. That probably won't cost much more and it's OK to drop the car at a different city within Germany. One of the main issues with the itinerary of the RR coach is the short stops it makes in each town. It only runs once per day in each direction, so you can't catch a later coach. If you choose to make some short stops on your own when driving, that would be your decision and completely flexible. Rick doesn't mention the recorded commentary as a highlight of the bus tour.
Have you thought about taking the train from one town to the next and then doing a tour in those towns? Certainly far better than listening to a recording, and you don't have to drive. Which towns did you want to visit besides Würzburg and Rothenburg?
I don't have any special interest in any town other than Rothenburg. I was only thinking of the RR Coach as a easy and interesting overview of the area on my way between Fussen & Rothenburg, and a way to avoid all those train changes. But I am now wondering if it would actually be the best use of 8 daylight hours. Given the description of the drive, doing it by car might not be a good idea either. I might just drop it entirely and visit Nurmberg on the way to Rothenburg by train. Still not sure, though, that I'm ready to give up my probably over-romanticized dream of the Romantic Road Coach ride.
"I don't have any special interest in any town other than Rothenburg."
Then do not bother with the long and less-than scenic bus ride, or worry about the commentary you will miss, or about the towns you will drive through but have no time to see anyway. Drop the car and catch the train to Nuremberg - drop bags in a locker and see this fine city - and move on to Rothenburg.
